Wais Seddiqi: Candidate of Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences (MA)

Mr. Wais Seddiq is a candidate for the Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences at Pacific Norwest University. Mr. Wais Seddiqi obtained his B.Sc. degree in General Biology and minor in psychology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He did his undergraduate research at UC San Diego’s Moore’s Cancer Center. As a research assistant, he received training on how to transcribe focus interviews. These tasks allowed him to hear from patients in underserved communities who are living with HIV/AIDS and cancer to discuss the topics they agree on such as their views related to HIV/AIDS and clinical trials participation. As he listened to those high-quality patient interviews, he learned how to interview these patients with respect, and how to better question them in regards to their emotions. He learned how to better understand and interpret their emotions and feelings and pay attention to their conversational tones. He was a co-author on an abstract American Association for Cancer Education’s national meeting in October 2014. The abstract has been published in the peer-reviewed, National Cancer Institute.

Mr. Seddiqi has been mentor in UCSD. As a mentor, he acquired experience and training in leadership, community service, and admission requirements through a variety of presentations and activities with practicing professionals and as a mentor, he trained mentees to learn, where to find resources specific to their major, differences between professors prior to registering for courses, and important deadlines for applications. He has tutored to undergraduate students in UCSD. He has been fluent in many languages such as Dari, Pashto, Persian, Dutch, and English Languages. He has Shadowed different physicians at Osteopathic Center San Diego such as Dr. Cyr, Dr. Kurisu, & Dr. Flemming. He has been volunteered in the Cardiology Department at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla California, from December 2015 until April 2019. He has learned to provide care for patients of all ages and helps people adopt lifestyle changes aimed at disease prevention.

Mr. Seddiqi, loves cooking, playing table tennis, running, and reading books on nutrition and the brain. When he has time, he spends it with my family members and friends. He is praising Almighty God for having the opportunity to continue his education to become a physician in order to become beneficial to others.
