Dr. Pamir Momand
Dr. Pamir Momand was born in Nangarhar, Afghanistan on 10th Aug 1984. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Nangarhar University and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Plant Pathology from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, India. Dr.Pamir has completed his Ph.D. in 2024 with a dissertation entitled “Variability and Integrated Management of Tomato Early Blight Caused by Alternaria spp.”He has got second best oral paper presentation award at the Post Graduate Research Conference at UAS, Dharwad, India in 2023. Beyond academia, Pamir has held various leadership roles. From 2007 to 2009, he served as a Provincial Monitoring Officer for the Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation and Recreation (AABRAR) in Nooristan, Afghanistan. He worked as a Provincial Coordinator for the UNESCO-supported Enhancement of Literacy in Afghanistan project, focusing on education development in Nangarhar and Khost provinces. He worked as the District Education Director for Nangarhar’s Ministry of Education. In 2014, Pamir joined Laghman University as a junior Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture. Additionally, he is currently the head of the Plant Protection Department. He served as a Peace Club Focal Point for the United States Institute of Peace at Laghman University. Dr. Momand has been actively involved in teaching, research, and academic leadership. His research focuses on the management of early blight in tomatoes caused by Alternaria spp. He has conducted extensive studies on the cultural, morphological, molecular, and pathogenic variability of Alternaria spp., as well as crop loss assessment due to early blight. His work also includes in vitro evaluation of fungicides, botanicals, bioagents, and Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK), development of integrated spray schedules for early blight management, and screening of tomato genotypes for resistance to the disease. Fluent in Pashto, Dari, Hindi, Urdu, and English, Dr. Pamir Momand is committed to both academic excellence and social progress. His extensive experience, both in research and in community-based initiatives, reflects his commitment to both academic and community development.
